…”They said she doesn’t belong to their association,” actress alleges at candlelight tribute

Nollywood actress Toyosi Adesanya has lashed out at her colleagues for shunning the late Temitope Osoba, alleging that many of them boycotted the candlelight service and night of tribute because the deceased actress “didn’t belong to their association.”

The event, held at LTV 8 ground in Ikeja, Lagos, saw only a handful of Nollywood stars in attendance, including Toyosi Adesanya, Jigan Babaoja, Alesh Sanni, and Foluke Daramola. The absence of most top Yoruba actors did not go unnoticed, drawing criticism from those present.

While giving her speech at the tribute, Adesanya did not hold back her disappointment, accusing her colleagues of beefing the late actress.

“They said she doesn’t belong to their association,” she alleged, suggesting that the low turnout was a deliberate snub rather than a genuine inability to attend.

Her comments have since sparked debate within the industry, with many questioning the unity and solidarity among Nollywood actors, particularly in times of grief.

Adesanya also shared an emotional account of her last conversation with the late actress, revealing that Temitope had been reaching out to her for work opportunities.

“She kept asking me to keep calling her for jobs,” Adesanya recounted, describing the late actress as someone who was eager to work and remained hopeful about her career despite her health challenges.

The revelation painted a picture of an actress who was determined to stay active in the industry until the very end.

Temitope Osoba, who passed away on August 5, 2026, at the age of 40, is set to be buried on Thursday, August 13, 2026, in Iperu Remo, Ogun State.

Her death has left a void in the Yoruba film industry, where she had built a career spanning nearly two decades. Tributes have continued to pour in from fans and colleagues, even as questions surrounding the circumstances of her death remain unanswered.

The late actress’s death has been surrounded by controversy, with her fiancé, Prophet Itunu Onadeko, alleging that she died at a police station in Ikorodu, Lagos State. He has dismissed claims that she was poisoned or maltreated before her death.

Additionally, a voice note surfaced shortly before her passing in which Temitope reportedly said Prophetess Kehinde Osoba should come and carry her dead body for a befitting burial. The voice note has added to the mystery surrounding her final moments.

Actor and activist Yomi Fabiyi has also called for the postponement of her burial, citing marks and traces that warrant investigation.

The low turnout at the candlelight tribute has once again brought to the fore the divisions within Nollywood, particularly among Yoruba actors. Adesanya’s allegations have reignited conversations about cliques, associations, and the lack of solidarity in the industry.

As the late actress is laid to rest on Thursday, her colleagues and fans will continue to mourn her loss while demanding answers about the circumstances that led to her untimely death.
