Nigerian street-pop singer Habeeb Okikiola, popularly known as Portable, suffered defeat in his highly anticipated celebrity boxing rematch against Nollywood actor Charles Okocha on Friday after dramatically walking out of the ring during the opening round at the Balmoral Convention Centre, Federal Palace Hotel, Victoria Island, Lagos .

The contest, tagged “Unfinished Business,” was organised following their first celebrity boxing encounter in December 2023, which Portable won. Okocha had challenged the result and activated a rematch clause, setting the stage for Friday’s showdown that drew a large crowd of fans eager to witness the sequel to their long-running rivalry .

The Fight That Descended Into Chaos

The bout started at a frenetic pace before quickly descending into confusion. During the opening round, Portable grabbed Okocha and took him to the canvas after both men exchanged punches. The referee intervened to separate the pair, while security personnel and bouncers entered the ring as tensions escalated .

After the first round ended, Portable walked out of the ring, leaving the arena as sections of the crowd booed his exit. Although he later returned and appeared to argue that taking Okocha down meant he had won the contest, officials ruled that Portable had abandoned the bout .

Announcing the result, the host declared: “We do have a decision. And due to the fact that Portable abandoned the ring after the first round, we have a winner, Mr. Algorithm, Charles” . Okocha was declared the winner by disqualification, a decision that sparked mixed reactions from spectators at the venue .

Why Portable Walked Out: The Bite Allegation

Hours after the fight ended, Portable took to Instagram to explain his decision, alleging that Okocha had abandoned boxing for wrestling and even bit him during the contest .

Displaying what he claimed were bite marks and injuries on his back and body, the controversial singer said: “He bit me. I landed a heavy hit on him. Normally, I beat him up. Man to man, one man is tougher than another. I dealt him a huge blow” .

“He bit me, number one. He choked my neck. Camera it. That’s why I say I don’t fight again. I’m big! I’m bigger than the money! I’m a star!” Portable declared, insisting he had fulfilled his promise of landing 10 punches on Okocha before leaving the ring .

“I wore one-round cloth to the bout. I wanted to beat him in one round,” he added .

Explaining why he exited the ring, Portable said he no longer wished to risk his career over celebrity boxing, arguing that his status as a musician outweighed the prize money attached to the contest .

A Rivalry Born From Business Dispute

The latest encounter is the second time the two entertainers have settled their differences in the boxing ring, following a public fallout over a disputed business deal in 2023 .

Portable had accused Okocha of failing to pay him millions of naira allegedly owed from an event, while Okocha disputed the claim and maintained that there was no formal agreement between them. The disagreement soon spilled onto social media, with the two entertainers trading accusations before eventually agreeing to settle the matter through a celebrity boxing match .

Their first bout, held at Landmark Beach, Victoria Island, in December 2023, lasted four rounds and ended with Portable being declared the winner. Okocha subsequently challenged the result, alleging that the contest had been unfair and pointing to an incident involving Portable’s gloves during the third round. He subsequently activated a rematch clause, setting the stage for their second meeting more than two years later .

Heated Build-Up

The build-up to Friday’s rematch was marked by the same confrontational energy that had characterised their rivalry. The two men exchanged threats during interviews, press conferences and face-offs, with tempers flaring on both sides .

“I will be going against Portable, and it is going to be chaos. I promise, kill or be killed in that fight. It is not by noise and posturing. We will see in the ring,” Okocha said ahead of the contest .

He added that he had gone into training camp not solely because of Portable, saying, “I do not need to train to meet Portable, but I went to train to prepare for some fights ahead of me as well because Portable is removable” .

Portable, known for his theatrics, lived up to his reputation at the pre-fight events, knocking over a table as he taunted Okocha. “You that I have beaten before, I will break your bones. Fight is coming,” he said, insisting he remained the better fighter and would prove it once again inside the ring .

Okocha Trained With Heavyweight Boxer

Okocha trained ahead of the contest with heavyweight boxer Moses Itauma, while Portable prepared under boxer Taiwo “Esehpo” Agbaje. The rematch also came after a difficult outing for Portable in the celebrity boxing circuit. In May 2026, comedian and content creator Carter Efe defeated the singer by unanimous decision at Chaos in the Ring 4, handing him his first loss in the celebrity boxing series and ending his reign as celebrity boxing champion .

Management Apologises

Amid the controversy, Portable’s management also apologised to the organisers, Balmoral Group, the event team, fans and supporters over the singer’s conduct and his decision to leave the contest .

In a statement posted on Instagram by his manager, Olawale Sarah, the management acknowledged the disappointment caused by the fight’s outcome .

“We sincerely apologise to the organisers, Balmoral Group, the entire event team, our fans, friends, family, and everyone who came out to support Portable at tonight’s celebrity boxing event,” the statement read .

The management urged the public to respect the singer’s position on the incident while accepting responsibility for the disappointment caused and pledging to learn from the experience .

What This Means

Friday’s result reversed the outcome of the pair’s first meeting and handed Okocha the bragging rights he had sought since their controversial 2023 encounter. For Portable, the defeat marks his second consecutive loss in the celebrity boxing circuit, following his May defeat to Carter Efe .

What began as a dispute over money and escalated through social media has now produced two boxing encounters, with the score between the entertainers levelled at one victory apiece .

The build-up to the fight, according to the organisers, generated more than two billion video views and 4.2 billion digital impressions across previous editions of the franchise, helping to raise the profile of Nigerian celebrity boxing .

At the time of filing this report, Okocha had not publicly responded to Portable’s biting allegations . Whether the pair will settle for a decider in the ring or allow their rivalry to fade remains to be seen.
