Football superstar Cristiano Ronaldo and his long-time partner Georgina Rodríguez have officially tied the knot in a private civil ceremony in the Portuguese resort of Cascais, bringing a formal conclusion to their nearly decade-long romance .

The 41-year-old Al-Nassr forward confirmed the news on Instagram by sharing a photograph of the couple’s hands displaying their gold wedding bands with the simple caption: “C❤️G” . Representatives for the footballer confirmed the marriage, describing the ceremony as “private and intimate,” attended by the couple’s five children .

The wedding, which took place on August 11, 2026, came exactly one year after Rodríguez, 32, announced their engagement on Instagram . At the time, she shared an image of an enormous oval-shaped diamond ring, estimated to be worth between $2 million and $5 million, with the caption: “Yes, I do. In this and in all my lives” .

The couple’s love story began in 2016 when Rodríguez was working as a sales assistant at a Gucci store in Madrid . Ronaldo has previously described the meeting as unexpected, admitting he didn’t initially believe the relationship would last. “I didn’t think at the beginning that [the relationship] would be this strong, that I would fall in love with her. I didn’t expect it, honestly,” he said in his wife’s Netflix reality series, I Am Georgina .

In a 2025 interview with Vogue Arabia, Rodríguez shared that she felt “a sense of peace and an inexplicable energy” when she was with Ronaldo, “as if we had known each other forever” .

Reports that the ceremony would be held in Funchal last weekend drew hundreds of people to the city’s cathedral hoping to catch a glimpse of the couple . The cathedral had previously told AFP it had no wedding scheduled for Ronaldo, while adding that hosting such an event would have been “an honour” .

The couple ultimately chose Cascais, an elite seaside resort approximately 30 kilometres (19 miles) west of Lisbon, where they own a villa .
